NICOLE MARIE BLACK

Nicole Marie Black is a member at Cohen|Black Law who has been named by Super Lawyers Magazine® to Colorado Rising Stars® from 2018–2021 and to Colorado Super Lawyers® in 2022. Prior to opening Cohen|Black Law, Nicole was a partner at Lewis Brisbois in the professional liability and commercial litigation practice groups.

Nicole understands that when a claim is made against a licensed professional, their reputation and livelihood are at stake. Whether the client wants to pursue prelitigation negotiation of the claim or vigorously defend against the allegations in court, Nicole actively manages the matter with the client’s objective in mind. She represents attorneys, accountants, healthcare professionals, architects, engineers, and insurance and real estate brokers in professional malpractice and business tort litigation, as well as in regulatory inquiries related to their licensure. Nicole also represents directors and officers in litigation related to their professional responsibilities.

In her commercial and real estate litigation practice, Nicole’s focus is on providing business professionals with the advice they need in order to address their risks efficiently and effectively – from pre-litigation, through litigation, and on appeal. She represents private corporations in contractual disputes, business breakup, regulatory investigations and business tort litigation. Nicole represents her construction and commercial landlord clients in payment disputes – including mechanics liens, bonding, foreclosures and eviction litigation. She also represents public and private entities in land use and boundary disputes, including takings claims.

Nicole represents insurance companies on claims of coverage related to commercial general liability, director officer and professional liability policies. She is engaged as coverage counsel to write an opinion, litigate whether coverage of a claim is required, represent the carrier against allegations of bad faith, and act as monitoring counsel.

Valuing a global perspective of what it means to be a legal professional, Nicole mentors, teaches and guest presents in service to the community. Nicole is dedicated to improving the legal profession through her leadership on a variety of boards and committees. She is an active leader in the Colorado Bar and Denver Bar Associations, and is a proud graduate of COBALT, the Colorado Bar Association Leadership Training Program. Outside of the office, Nicole enjoys running and hiking with her Rhodesian Ridgeback, yoga, fly fishing, skiing and cooking for family and friends.
